Salzburg, Austria

An old student back at the Salzburg Law School again

Today I returned to a place where I spent time studying as a post-graduate student. Salzburg holds fond memories of good friends, high level coursework, and lots of time spent in beer gardens...
I retraced the pathways I used to navigate ten years ago and I find it very interesting to see that I'm ten years older yet the city of Salzburg is exactly as I remember it. I gave my sister a brief tour and pointed out notable locations such as Mozart's birth place, the Mirabell Gardens, and the resting place of Leopold Mozart (Mozart's father) and Constanze Mozart (Mozart's widow). I pointed out a few locations used in the filming of "The Sound of Music" and we also ate traditional Austrian cuisine at the Stiegl Keller which lies just beneath the fortress dominating the old town. It is always enjoyable to spend some time in this beautiful place.

I love that street where Mozart's house is located, at least I think that's the street that has all the great Euro style swing signs. I used to have a architectural sign biz so I notice that stuff.

BTW.. nice Ducati shirt.

So, Robert, I finally went to the bottom of your blog and read up! WOW! You Da Man. I'm impressed. 350 Spyder, born in Europe and so on.

Now am I to understand that your '04 is on the way out? "I had other ideas for my outgoing R53"

I've been to Eindhoven. My youngest daughter married a dutchman so we have seen a lot of NL. Love the place and the people. She now lives in, as stated before, Hilversum, his parents live in Dalfsen and my ex lives in some other place I can't remember.

And here I am telling you about places to see and eat in Europe, must have been a laff.

rb,

No problem, Europe is a pretty big place and though I know a lot about it there is always something new to learn! Plus it is always nice to correspond with someone who shares my enthusiasm for European travel.

I share the F355 with my father...but I am probably the bigger gearhead and Ferrari guy at heart.

Eindhoven is my hometown of sorts. I was very young when I left so I'm more of a Southern Californian but I have always had family in the area and I always feel like I'm coming back to my second home when I return for a visit.

No way that I'm selling the R53. I've put a lot of time and coin into it and this European trip has made the car very special to me.

JCW MCS is going nowhere but into my garage when it gets back to L.A.!

Robert, If I could, I'd live in Greece on Naxos or one of those islands and have a small cafe. I have grown to love Europe as much as USA but understand it may be diff if I lived there as I'm a language idiot, where as daughter 2 speaks 5. I guess Baja would be my other choice.

I have coveted Ferrari's since about the age 15 when I saw my 1st. Don't really know the models that well though, my attention was always their design as I've always been into some sort of art since I can remember. I am a graphic designer by trade, retired, well sorta [TwistyBitz].

This Sunday is a SCMM get together at some airport in the Ventura area that I'm going to take part in. Odd thing about my involvement in SCMM is I'm actually designing a new SoCal MINI/Mini clubs logo, website, just the design not the actual site, and such. I did tell the SCMM president, Lex, to be upfront with him. This group is very secretive as to name and stuff, but the checks don't bounce.

I was wondering if you have pushed the car to any particular top speed you would like to divulge? =;¬)

Also, it must be tiring dealing with travel and all this internet stuff. Having two sisters myself I wondered how that's going? If you could do anything over with this trip, so far, what would it be?

My usual MMR [morning mini routine] is MotoringFile, GBMINI and so forth now it's your site and then the rest. Thanks so far it's been fun.

So far JCW MCS has been somewhere in the neighborhood of 120 mph on the autobahn. I hit speeds of 110 on sections of the autostrada in Italy. Technically not legal in Italia, but widely done when safe and the norm for high performance cars.

The MINI performs admirably with two persons and a boot full of luggage. Will still try to get a picture of the luggage when I'm not in a dark parking garage loading/unloading.

I'll have to give your website a closer look when I get a chance but the blog monopolizes my internet time. I've known about SCMM since its early days and almost signed up as an early member. I was a bit hesitant at the time because I was more into the car itself and have other automotive pursuits and hobbies and didn't know how a MINI social group would fit in with my pursuits. I have always had great conversations with SCMM folks in the past so I'll have to re-think membership when I get back.

As for traveling with a sibling... sure, we have had our disagreements but we get along very well generally so all is good. I wouldn't have undertaken this trip with Jennifer if I knew we would constantly bicker!
