Preparations for Italy

Another quiet day on the shores of the Meditteranean Sea. I thought about taking a drive up the Route Napolean, but early morning rain and thunder put a damper on that idea. The day cleared up but we decided to take it easy and prepare for the coming trip to Italy. The plan calls for a drive along the Italian Riviera to Pisa and its famous Leaning Tower and then on to the Renaissance treasures of the city of Florence.

Stay tuned!

Are you going to Greece? We found Greece even be better than Italy, but hard o choose a fav. In Greece do islands of Naxos, Eos, Santorini... all by ferries. Athens is a nitemare as far as traffic. If in Athens.. the Parthenon & the Platka are a must.

So How much was shipping to and from USA? What is the deal with insurance and registration / gov regs in all these countries?

Caio, have a great time!

BTW... Be sure to look for the restaurant Il Latini in Florence, The used to hand out bread and wine while you waited in line for the restaurant to open or while very busy:

Ya gotta go to Cavallino in Marenello, by the original entrance of the Ferrari Factory. Enzo ate there daily, I'm told.

Caio...!

Greece is not on the itinerary for this trip. I was there a few years ago and I would definitely be worried if I had to drive over there. The motorcyclists were crazy in Athens and I've heard that EU statistics show Greece to have the most dangerous roads.

Beautiful country though!

How much was shipping? Way too much from what it could have been if I didn't have to expedite because of MINI United. Normal shipping by sea and you'll be looking at about $1500.00 out of L.A. and the same or a bit more back from Rotterdam. Registration is no problem for short-term visits...just drive on U.S. plates, at least in EU. Insurance can be arranged fairly easily unless car is rare or high performance (this caused me some headaches). I was eventually able to insure with collector car insurance.

Thanks again for the tips. Will try to get to Maranello again...Il Cavallino was closed last time but the restaurant next to Fiorano (can't remember name right now) that Schumacher loves was open and served a great meal. I thought it might be fun to get a picture of the MINI in front of the Ferrari factory if time permits.
